Patients who come to us from Maninagar, near Kankaria Lake, sometimes notice that several small X-rays are taken during a single root canal. It is fair to wonder why. Each of these images has a specific job, and together they guide the treatment from the first step to the last.
A root canal involves cleaning narrow channels deep inside the tooth. These channels cannot be seen directly, so the dentist relies on periapical (IOPA) images that show the whole tooth from crown to root tip. Our clinic has its own X-ray room, so the images are ready while you are still in the chair.
Some teeth have curved roots or an extra canal that is easy to miss. A progress X-ray helps the dentist find these details instead of guessing. It also shows whether any infection near the root tip is present, which affects how the tooth is cleaned. This careful approach makes the treatment more predictable and reduces the chance of the tooth needing further work later.
Each image is taken only when it adds useful information, with care to keep exposure low. Please tell the dentist if you are or may be pregnant before the treatment begins. You can ask to see every image on the screen. The dentist will point out the roots, the canals and the root tip so you can follow the progress yourself. You can read more about the full procedure on our root canal treatment page.
Most root canals are completed over one or more visits, depending on how the tooth responds. If treatment is spread across appointments, the dentist may take another image at the start of the next visit to confirm that the canals are ready to be sealed. This step keeps the work on track and avoids rushing a tooth that needs more time.
