Seeing pink in the sink after brushing is one of the most common reasons people from Akhabar Nagar come to see us about their gums. Many assume they brushed too hard and switch to a softer brush. Sometimes that is enough, but usually the bleeding is the gums reacting to plaque that has built up along the gum line.
Healthy gums do not bleed with normal brushing. When they do, it is a signal worth listening to. The good news is that bleeding tends to show up early, often while the problem is still at its most reversible stage.
Plaque is a soft, sticky layer of bacteria. If it is not removed, it hardens into tartar that a toothbrush cannot shift. Both irritate the gum edge, making it red, puffy and quick to bleed. This is gingivitis. If the irritation continues, the infection can move below the gum and begin to affect the bone, which is a more serious stage called periodontitis.
Other things can make bleeding more noticeable, such as a new toothbrush with hard bristles or starting to floss after a long gap. This kind of bleeding usually settles within days once the gums get used to regular cleaning. Bleeding that carries on beyond that needs a proper look.
At the first visit, we examine the gums, measure the space around each tooth and check whether any bone has been affected. If the problem is limited to gingivitis, a thorough scaling and polishing along with better home care usually helps the gums settle. If deeper pockets are found, deep cleaning below the gum line or laser treatment may be advised. We also show you how to brush and clean between teeth gently, so the bleeding does not keep coming back.
