When a child needs a tooth removed, parents in Ranip often feel more nervous than the child. That is natural. A calm setting, simple words and a little patience make the experience much easier for young patients.
At Kkeswani Dental & Polyclinic, we take time with children. Our first aim is to save a tooth when possible, but sometimes a milk tooth is badly decayed, infected or blocking an adult tooth. In those cases, gentle removal is the kinder choice.
Use simple, calm words and avoid scary phrases. You might say the dentist will help the sore tooth come out so it stops hurting. Give a light meal beforehand unless told otherwise. Bring any comfort item your child likes. Tell the dentist about your child's health and medicines at the start.
The dentist explains each step in a way the child can understand. Local anaesthesia numbs the area first, and a parent can usually stay close for reassurance. Afterwards, the child bites on gauze, eats soft, cool food and avoids straws for the day. Keep an eye out so the child does not bite the numb lip or cheek. Call the clinic if bleeding or swelling increases, and bring your child back for the review.
Once the numbness wears off, some children feel mild soreness for a day or two. Plenty of rest, soft favourite foods and quiet activities such as reading or drawing can help. Praise your child for being brave, since a positive memory makes future dental visits easier. Regular check-ups and good brushing habits from an early age help lower the chance of another tooth needing removal later on.
